Yes, white jeans after Labor Day! Not wearing your brilliant whites after Labor Day is a defunct style faux pas anyway. Plus, I've always had a rebellious nature!
It's unbelievable how much I love this time of year. I guess it's because I'm a September baby! Autumn is just in my DNA.
It's that perfect weather where you can get by wearing a long-sleeved top and not necessarily a jacket. And a perfect day or this top.
Just as I previously said, with the last three peplum tops I made -- I knew I'd be making a long-sleeved version of Vogue 8815. And I can guarantee this is only the first one for the long-sleeved round.
With the exception of adding a inch to the length of the bodice, this pattern sewed really well out of the envelope. I made it in a black ponte knit from Hancock Fabrics this time. I really think I bought the whole bolt because I still have plenty left. Aww... what to make next time? LOL
It's no secret I'm completely and utterly obsessed with exposed zippers. Maybe one day I'll grow weary of them. But that time is no where on the horizon.
I decided to add my pearl embellished Peter Pan collar necklace. It's an excellent contrast to the black top.
And I polished off the look with another pair of Shoe Dazzle studded pumps in black.
Sometimes I feel like I have to restrain myself from inserting yet another exposed zipper to a garment, but why bother. They're amazing! As are your top and heels!
ReplyDeleteSara, I feel the same way about exposed zippers. Thanks!
DeleteI really love this outfit, it's so simple yet makes a statement and since it's just a few simple pieces, it's the type of thing that I would wear myself. I have to ask you a nagging question tho--how do you keep your figure? Do you have a simple exercise routine you're fond of, or is it simple genetics? Inquiring minds want to know....
ReplyDeleteCeleste Lux, genetics, eating healthy and a moderate amount of exercise. Thanks!
DeleteNice top, love the exposed zipper. I have to try this very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Opal!
DeleteDid you go down a size on this top because you made it from a knit???
ReplyDeleteFaye, my pattern was already cut. But I did take in the seams as needed.
DeleteI love black and white and the Vogue top with sleeves is perfect. But I really love the shoes and I know why you own them in two colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn!
DeleteI love pearls and was thrilled to inherit a pearl collar from my grandmother. But I haven't known how to wear it. Thanks for the demo!
ReplyDeleteThanks homeon129acres!
DeleteI love this updated version of such a classic look. Your peplum tops are always gorgeous, and the collar looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherita!
DeleteCute pairing! It's classic, but edgy!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love this version! I just ordered this pattern and some burgundy ponte. I love your version, especially with the exposed zipper!
ReplyDeleteJeanette, I love the idea of burgundy. Oxblood is THE color of the season! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThanks Candice!
DeleteI'm still wearing my white pants too. Love the outfit, it rocks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie!
DeleteThis is a great look! Thanks for showing the different ways to wear a peplum top as I had no interest in them before you started making them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Levone!
DeleteThat's grown folks wear there, LOL...wow Erica you bought the bolt. I am POSITIVE that you will come up with many garments to create :)
ReplyDeleteMonica, it's not that serious. I think it was only like about 6 or 7 yds lefton there and I bought what was left. Thanks!
DeleteLove this look, Erica! The hair, 'fit, and shoes! It's everything!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gladys!
Deletele outfit, as always, rocks, but that collar necklace!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Oona!

ReplyDeleteThanks Sassy T!
DeleteI'm so glad to see your long sleeved version. This pattern is still in my "to cut" pile. Do you have any tips for sewing zippers to ponte knits while avoiding ripples?
ReplyDeleteYes I do Grace. INTERFACE! Use strips of interfacing on the seam allowances.
DeleteLove the peter pan collar with the top! I'm not brave enough to wear my white pants I'm afraid I run into my mom while I have them on!LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL... thanks Joen!
DeleteLoving the Valentino inspired pointed toe! :)
