McCall's 6326

I always notice there are key pieces that I feel are missing from my wardrobe. And this time it's cute tops. That's what my focus is going to be on for a moment. Cute tops I can just throw on!

It was really windy yesterday!

Project Details:

Pattern Sizing: 4-20, I cut the 14. I probably could have cut a 12.

Description:
Close-fitting tops.

Did it look like the pattern envelope when you were done sewing it? Exactly!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Extremely easy! Great project for a beginner.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the style. I wanted a cute top that has the comfort of a t-shirt, but it doesn't look like one. The one thing I didn't like is that as with most Big 4 pattern companies, this pattern is drafted with A LOT of ease. For a knit top that should be close-fitting, my personal preference is that it has negative ease. I cut the 14 and I still had to take it in. Just be aware that you would probably need to go down a size or two.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? Not a lot. I lengthened it by only an inch and like I said previously, I had to do some nipping and tucking. Also, I tacked the shoulder strap down to the bodice. IMO, having it all act as one-piece keeps everything in place. And trust, I wore this top to a park and played with the family and it stayed in place.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I wouldn't sew this view, but I may sew one of the others. And I do recommend it!

  4. So pretty. The ponte roma looks like it has nice body. I always pass it by because I just don't do polyester but I think I'll have to reconsider. (Good knits are hard to come by.) I think you'd look great in the halter neck view too. Happy Easter!

  5. I always laugh when people say they don't do polyester. I think polyester is great! I love the fact that it doesn't wrinkle much, it packs great and I need clothes that are wash and wear. And ALL of the major designers use polyester as well. Just purchased a poly/rayon Donna Karan Collection dress for the movie I'm working on.

  6. I'm a beginner seamstress... I just made my very first dress last night for todays Easter Sunday service at my church. It took me 8 hours to complete. I'm sure that it would have only taken you half the time, but, I think for my very first dress, I did a pretty good job! I want to thank you for having this blog! What fashionable, yet relatively easy, patterns can you recommend?

  7. Well... this one is easy! LOL Nothing really off of the top of my head. You just have to page through the blog and see what I've had to say about it.

Disclaimer: Just because I think it's easy, doesn't necessarily mean a beginner will too.

I always have to take patterns by the big 4 down at least one size (except the bust- I tend to have to take that one up a bit). Knits, at least four. It's kind of obnoxious.

    Very cute top!

  13. This looks great on you! I know what you mean about needed shirts that have the comfort of a T-shirt but not the look. I just made McCalls 6078 and it definitely fits into that category. (It also ran quite big and I had to go down a size.)

  19. Great top, I love how it has the easy care and comfort of a t-shirt but has lots of glamour that can be worn casually or dressed up. And it's a beautiful colour!

  20. I didn't mean to sound like a fiber snob above! It's just that sometimes I perspire when nervous and when that happens I just think about it happening which makes it even worse. So I feel more comfortable in something breathable like cotton or linen or rayon. I do have polyester/poly mix clothes and you're absolutely right, they wear and pack like a dream. (Not to mention that I live in poly fleece at home during the winter.)
Say what we like about the petroleum industry, we get a lot of handy products out of it. :)

  21. Cute - these are the sort of tops I need! Comfortable, but not a boring t-shirt. You look like you're comfortable and enjoying yourself, but still look chic.

  22. That top is not a just "throw it on top." It's HOT!!!!!

You are making me jealous with all these non-bra or half bra wearing tops. In the stores I force myself to ignore them. And here you are posting them making me all sad and stuff.

    Phooey!!!!

  36. I'm totally taken by this top - even though it's "just" a knit top, the single shoulder and gathering make it look so stylish (and that colour is super on you). I'm in the same predicament, with a distinct lack of cute easy tops - or rather cute easy tops that fit properly. I'm very tempted to make this top, although I might practice my drafting skills to make something similar...
