What I'm Wearing | Zigzag Maxi!

I had this M. Missoni maxi dress pinned for a while, in two color variations and I knew I'd be recreating this look.
I decided to pull out my Mission Maxi pattern because I really love the racerback style of the top and also that the pattern gives you a dress with waist shaping.  It was an easy as punch modification:  I just separated the top from the bottom 9" from the underarm and allowed for a seam allowance.  I also lined the bottom portion because the zigzag fabric is pretty transparent.
I used a black ponte knit from my stash and the zigzag fabric is from Jo-Ann's and a lightweight poly knit for the lining.  Sidenote:  I was in TJ Maxx in the Runway section and noticed that silk crepe maxis were lined with a lightweight poly knit.  I guess this is the fabric trend... which is new to me.
Wearing:  blazer: Vogue 8721; dress: Jamie Christina's Mission Maxi; wedges: Jessica Simpson; belt: Calvin Klein (old); purse: Urban Expressions.

  5. Gorgeous. Funny enough I bought a 70's knitting mag for 20p from a charity shop, and in there was this knitted funky zig zag maxi dress. I was like wow I will be making a zig zag maxi skirt for sure in the future just my style. Won't be knitting it though lol.

  11. LOVE IT! I saw that knit in Joann's visiting my father in Florida. Loved it but passed because it was so sheer. Would never thought of lining it with poly knit :(. If it's still there when I go back I'll be sure to grab some (I wanted a full maxi dress and they had a funky red and purple mix). Thanks for the inspiration! :)

  17. Erica. You remain an ongoing inspiration. You combine great "high" style with practical hints, comments and show that some magical clothing can be made from material readily available at Joannes, etc.

About the lining of the Mission Maxi cotton? When you line these, do you prewash both the outside and inside *lining( materials first?

Do you advise making the lining in a traditional way...or do you under line it ? Hope that makes a bit of sense!

Again. Thanks for the pix, the hints and your ongoing commitment to your blog.
