Review: McCall's 6515 | Striped Palazzo Pants!

Wide-legged pants are back.  And I really like this pair.
McCall's 6515 is a great pattern to interpret this trend.
I cut the size 14 and lengthened by 3 inches because I plan to only wear these pants with flat sandals.  It was really easy because there is only the front, back, waist bands and it has an invisible side zipper.  I probably cut, altered the pattern and sewed these up in less than 2 hours.
The pattern suggest a narrow hem.  And since I used this lightweight, drapey poly crepe (I *think* I bought this fabric from Hancock Fabrics.) -- the narrow hem was sufficient.  These type of pants are meant to "flow".  If I chosed a woven (or even a fabric like a ponte), I would go with a wider hem.  I think this is a great pattern if you're on the palazzo pants wagon this season.  And I also think that view A, would sew up beautifully in a ponte or a double knit.

  1. I never got off the palazzo pants wagon. :o) Granted, I wear more the retro styled palazzo pant, not the casual knit palazzo of a few years back. You know the black ones that everybody had? :o) Your striped ones would be right at home in my wardrobe!

  5. Do you think this pattern is friendly to larger hips and thighs? Or would it need to be altered? I love the pants, but I am not that great at altering patterns for my body shape.

  11. GREAT choice of fabric! This pattern is near the top of my summer sewing queue and definitely one of the next ones I tackle once I find the perfect flowing fabric.

Question... do you lengthen all 3 inches in the leg or do you also add to the rise? I'm 5'11" and most RTW pants feel short in the rise on me so I usually want to lengthen my rise an inch and around 2 inches in the leg area. Thoughts?

    1. These pants have a very high rise. They're practically high-waisted. So, no. But you'll have to make that judgement call on your own by measuring your crotch area versus the pattern pieces. Thanks!
