She Inspires Me | Marjorie Harvey #BlogLikeCrazy

Who:  Marjorie Harvey
Who is she:  Wife of Steve Harvey
Today's style crush is the fabulous at 50, yes 50 year old grandmother.  Marjorie hosts "The Lady Loves Couture" blog because well, this lady LOVES couture!  And is always front and center at Paris Fashion Weeks.
What I love about Marjorie's style is that even though she's 50, she's not afraid to flaunt it!  She's clearly a woman that has always taken good care of herself and it shows.  And she does fashion in a way that a confident woman of means does it without having it come across as "mutton dressed as lamb".
Her casual looks are just as fabulous as her couture looks.
And she also does edgy in an effortless way.  Check out this high-low skirt and the boots!
Not only is Marjorie a style crush, but she's also my "GlamMa" crush.  Grandmothers are no longer little old ladies these days!  What a fabulous inspiration to aspire to as I head closer to 50!

  1. I agree -- she is fabulous. I've got to pick up my game -- I'm 48 and no where near as stylish!

  3. Her style is wonderful! I LOVE the high-low skirt! I would love to sew a similar look. I bought the Butterick 5929 pattern and I was thinking I could modify View B into a high-low skirt. Do you know of any other patterns you could suggest to create that look?

    Thanks!

    1. Marla, I bought Vogue 8882 with the intention of making a similar skirt. Take a look at that one.

  6. I love seeing your style icons and who inspires you because you are an inspiration for me. I also really appreciate being directed to other blogs through the bloggers I regularly read.

One thing that jumped out at me though was the the "Who: Marjorie Harvey
Who is she: Wife of Steve Harvey" bit. I think if she's fabulous enough on her own than it's not necessary to introduce her as someones wife rather than as the style icon she is. Perhaps her spousal relationship has to do with her "means", but probably not as much to do with her personal style. I checked out her blog bio and was disappointed to see that she defines herself that way.

    1. I don't see anything wrong with that. I am Mrs. Michael Bunker. Even Beyonce refers to herself as Mrs. Shawn Carter. There's no reason why a woman that loves and respects her husband can't define herself as his wife.

    2. I am happy to describe myself as Mrs. Aaron Knier. You are right, there is nothing wrong with honoring my husband by identifying our relationship when I introduce myself.

My feminist knee-jerk reaction is in response to the context of the introductory statement in your post. Beyonce needs no introduction but if she did I wouldn't start with, "Beyonce is the wife of Jay Z." Respectfully, I would probably lead with "Beyonce is a talented performer..." and when she refers to herself as Mrs. Carter we know she is simply stating that she is happily married and to whom, not offering her bona-fides or giving the summation of her entire identity.

Anyway, I apologize for running on... this blog is about style and I'm happy to turn the conversation back in that direction.... I do think that who one is married to might affect ones style tangentially if one needed to (for instance) go to red carpet events because the spouse is an actor/performer, or the head of state, etc. and it's interesting to peek into the closets of people with glamorous lives.

  7. Hi Erica. Marjorie is hotness and so are you! I'm inspired to fix up and look sharp minus the couture and plus my sewing machine!
Grace I know what you mean. You don't get men saying that they are the husband to anyone. It's good when sewing talk expands sometimes!! Wishing you both a great weekend!!

    1. Thanks Miss J. I just truly think it's a waste of time focusing on what someone else considers themselves. If she's good, I'm good!

  10. I just don't like those high/low skirts. I think it's the fullness of the skirt that leaves me thinking that upper/inner thighs, even those on nicely toned bodies just aren't that great looking. The new Ms. Clooney, who is model thin, was photographed in a similar dress and she had the same issue. I like short skirts, it's just something about the high/low with a full skirt that disturbs me.

  11. True! She (and you) inspire me in different ways. You keep me inspired to keep improving the quality of my sewing and Marjorie is fashion personified. I'm in my 50's and this just lets me know to keep moving forward!
