My Week as Guest Pinner for The McCall Pattern Company!
12:00 PM
As many of you know, last week I guest pinned for The McCall Pattern Company. Usually, as fashion transitions from one season to the next and also with sewing, I get overwhelmingly excited. Sure, there are always basics for the new season that I want to sew. But I also like to add in certain colors, fabrics and style trends. When I was granted a reason to pin instead of just my random pinning, I really started to see my personal trends developing.
Who knew I needed velvet in my life?! Velvet is one of those luxurious fabrics that I never even think about until it's holiday season. But wouldn't that gorgeous velvet blazer simply look amazing just with jeans and boots? I think so. And a black stretch velvet bodysuit, paired with a full midi skirt? I'm thinking to die for! And the richness of the blue wide leg pants? Yes! So velvets will be on my fabric shopping list.
Another fabric that just came out of nowhere and wasn't on my radar is wide wale corduroy. I see corduroy every fall, but I never think to purchase it. And I actually own a RTW brown wide wale coat. I love the asymmetrical wrap skirt, the flared pants that are so 70's and the trench coat is amazing.
I thought I was over blanket coats since I've made a couple. But I guess I'm not! Not only is this one of the quickest coats you can make, they're so easy to wear.
So, Butterick 6244 is currently on my to-sew list.

I like the idea of a blanket coat but at 5'5" fear being overwhelmed by it. I agree that a velvet blazer is pretty much amazing <3
ReplyDeleteI like this new Butterick. It doesn't look like it would overwhelm your frame.
DeleteLove Butterick 6244 is currently on my to-sew list. Thanks! for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it'll be a great pattern. Thanks for reading!
DeleteYes!! To B6244...I'm also 5'5" & have bought the pattern ...am looking for a white or cream colored boiled wool. Love the look. Thanks for inspiration always.
ReplyDeleteI loved boiled wool! That will be gorgeous! Thanks Eleanor!
DeleteHi Erica. Love the post. Very inspirational. Fall always makes me want to go for "baroque". I love the idea of velvet for the upcoming season. You've inspired me to pull out the purple velvet I have in my stash. I think if done right it will look less "Prince"ly and more Russian Princess.
ReplyDeleteI am so here for the Russian Princess look! That should be stunning! Thanks Angela!
DeleteI love velvet too! It's just so luxurious and cozy. I also wanted to add that I have a 10 year old daughter and she is extremely interested in sewing. She's been reading and watching videos and experimenting on her own. I introduced her to your site and she is in LOVE! Thanks for inspiring her!

Brigette, that is so awesome! Thanks for reading!
DeleteAnd just like that I've fallen in love with blanket coats!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabric is the first picture? The one with just the coat (no one wearing it). I want to make exactly that!
Hi Max, I believe it's Stella McCartney and it's a knit -- made from polyamide, mohair, yak and wool-blend. It's on Net-a-porter.com.
DeleteI love your outfit, those colors (green, marsala) ! I just love! I am so jealous you had to lengthen the legs 3inches!!! The look great on you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ines!
