Bold Stripes and Orange Trend For Spring 2016!

1:00 PM

Going into spring, don't be coy or dainty with your stripes.  Think big and bold!  Bold Stripes are another popular trend for Spring 2016.  And this McCall's 6886 dress made in a fabulous contrasting black and white stripe ponte knit creates head-turning, optical illusion perfection.
I'm so happy that I decided to create this vertical stripe dress instead of commonly seen horizontal stripes.  I feel that it gave the look more of a unique appeal for this style of dress and as always, vertical stripes elongate the frame.
Orange is most definitely the new black for this spring.  Today, I'm using it to give my outfit a pop of color.  My orange is coming in the form of another spring trend, the Saddle Bag.  We've been deep off in 70's style for a minute now and it's just a natural progression with this style of handbag.  I'm loving them with details such as as tassels and fringe.  And most defintely the crossbody style that leaves me hands-free!
Styling tip:  I wore my McCall's 6886 black and white stripe dress with my (now classic) OOP McCall's 5190 military style jacket that I made in 2008, and have been reaching for it every since.  My bag is from Target, and my shoes are Christian Siriano Ghillie Flats.

  4. I love the way you used the stripes in this fabric, nice idea! There's nothing like a classic jacket you can bring out year after year. This is a perfect one and the color is awesome…neutral that can go with anything!

    1. I bought the fabric from Mood Fabrics.com. And it was not vertical. The stripes run horizontal on the fabric. I just turned it the other way. Thanks!
