The "Season of the Sleeve" is still going strong and I'm glad about that. Lucy from Trend Patterns reached out to me to introduce herself and her new pattern line. Lucy is just getting started, but if these designs are any indication, she definitely is moving in the right direction and she has my undivided attention. There are so many indie sewing pattern designers popping up what seems like daily. And yes, I'm one of those people that say, "How many t-shirts, A-line skirts and fit-and-flare dress patterns do we need?" So, it's refreshing to see an indie pattern designer that is like me, inspired by luxury brands that are straight off of the runway. This is my aesthetic and this is what I want see more of and what I feel that I am missing from the home sewing industry. Like the glorious golden days of Vogue Paris Originals and Vogue Couturier Designs. Stepping down from my soapbox in these stiletto boots...

This is a paper pattern. Not the flimsy tissue either. It's that heavy weight paper like brown shipping paper. Trend Patterns are currently UK sized 6-12. I was unsure about the sizing, so I went with the size 12. This is it straight out of the envelope without a single alteration. I normally cut Big 4 patterns size 12-14.

My fabric is Italian White Stretch Cotton from Mood Fabrics. I believe it's sold out. But the pattern recommends lightweight fabrics like cotton or something sheer. But couldn't you just see this made up in a silk organza, with these sleeves? 😍

Being that this is a UK designer, the Metric System is what's being utilized. The seam allowance is 1cm which is a nice and scant 3/8". I feel all patterns should have this seam allowance. It would greatly reduce the need for trimming your seam allowances. The seams are serged and pressed to the side.

There's an invisible back zipper. And the neckline is finished with facings. 

When I make this again, I think I'll eliminate this and use bias bound finish.

What gives this sleeve its amazing shape is that the sleeve is cut into the side fronts and backs. And there is a should panel piece that runs down the center of both pieces. There is also an underarm/side panel/gusset.

So yes, I love this top! I decided to give it first spin with my Vogue 8956 black and white pinstriped wrap skirt. I'm positive that it'll look just as great with jeans!

So I've added a new member to my ever growing jumpsuit collection. This time it's Rachel Comey's Vogue 1523 pattern.

This pattern is my newest love! You know how you make something and you just can't wait to put it on and you want to wear it everyday? That's how I'm feeling about this jumpsuit. It's like pajama dressing because it's even though it's slim cut, it's pretty loose fitting, while at the same time it has waist shaping. I normally don't go for this cropped length pant, but these work. I think it's because of the proportions. The billowy Bishop sleeves just balance out the look. And also with these type of pants, I can go from heels to flats and that's what makes this super wearable!

Tracee Ellis Ross wore the short sleeve version of the Rachel Comey Silt Jumpsuit on What Happens LIVE last year. She's a fan of the designer and wears pieces from her collection often. That shows you right there this is the designer for the "cool girls"!

This jumpsuit has really great lines that get a little lost in my print. So here's the technical drawing so you can see!

My fabric is this fabulous rayon crepe that drapes with perfection that I got at Fine Fabrics. I cut the size 14. I lengthened the bodice by an inch and I lengthened the hem of the pants by 3 inches.

The jumpsuit is done in French seams and it also has bias bound edges. Not exactly a quick project!

And this is a zip-front jumpsuit. That's a bonus!

Above the zipper is a deep v-front. If this is too deep for you, keep that in mind and buy a zipper longer than what is recommended and raise it.

I love these sleeves! They give the jumpsuit that 70s vibe that's so popular right now.

The sleeves have buttoned cuffs and a continuous lap. My buttons are adorable and I love the vintage look.

The cropped pants have a welt back pocket. I won't go into any details because I've been showing welts on the last couple of projects.

But here is a close up. As much as I love, love, love this print, so much gets lost in it.

I decided to omit the self belt. It's not like it would really be seen anyway. And I kind of like breaking the print up, slightly. If I get around to it, I think I'll make this one in a solid too!

After a couple of heavily involved projects, I always like to cleanse my sewing palette with something really quick and easy, like this adorable little vest.

I used Simplicity 1499 and this really cool down fabric I found at Joann's.

I cut the size 14 and this baby sewed up so quickly. The only thing that extended the construction process was the seam binding. I wrote a tutorial on how I sew bias tape with mitered corners.

I've worked with prequilted fabric like this before, but it was years ago and I still wear my Simplicity 2812 jacket.

I found this fabric pretty easy to sew using my BERNINA Walking Foot and a Microtex needle. I used my serger to finish the seams.

I love the bias tape finish.

And I am always excited about a metal exposed zipper.

I love this vest and I think I'll be making at least one more!

Keeping your needle in the down position, raise your presser foot and turn your project to 45° angle and stitch down into the point.
