My love affair with these Ginger Jeans continues...

As I'd mentioned on my previous pair of jeans, I knew I'd quickly be sewing another pair.

This time, I used this fabulous Whisper White White Short-Piled Stretch Cotton Corduroy that I made for my Mood Sewing Network project with my monthly allowance from Mood Fabrics.

I'd also previously mentioned that I cut a size that was a little too large. This time, I cut a 14 with a size 12 waist. 

And whereas I did not interface the denim waistband, I definitely interfaced these. I've been wearing the denim jeans so often that I feel the waistband had grown and it's very loose. So I didn't want to make that bad judgement call with the stretch cord.

So, it looks as though I've found my new fall uniform: a bodysuit with jeans! 

I've never really been a t-shirt and jeans, kinda chick. So, something just as comfortable, but with much more pizzazz and flair with the added plus of not having to worry about coming untucked is a winner.

The bodysuit is Simplicity 8513, view A. My fabric is a 9 x 1 Rib Knit Black Solid from Mood Fabrics.com. It's 95% cotton and 5% spandex and it feels wonderful! 

I cut the size medium and I added an inch of length at the waist. I also lengthened the sleeves.

Just like with jumpsuits, I was never able to fit RTW bodysuits. They were never long enough. And before sewing, I was the queen of stacked bracelets and cuffs. They filled in the negative space that too short sleeves created. See how sewing has blessed my life!

The bodysuit has a facing that was supposed to just hang free. I didn't understand why that was there. It seems like you can get the same clean finish with binding. So I took the opportunity to take that facing and add 1" elastic to the bottom and just create a shelf bra. And another thing I did was to add two additional loops because I had a gigantic opening in the already deep plunging V. I also skipped making the tie. I used suede lacing I had in my stash. And here's a tip: I used a crochet hook to thread the lacing through the loops.

And lastly, I was concerned about the leg opening creating a panty line. Y'all have no idea how anal I am about VPL (visible panty line). I have a huge collection of seamless underwear. Like every single pair I own can be worn under ANYTHING! And that's the number 1 reason I haven't branched out to sew my own panties. So, what I did was not serge the edge of the leg. I added the elastic and used a long and wide stretch stitch (#9 on BERNINA 350 PE). And it's folded over and stitched closed to the edge.

I love this bodysuit and I'll be making the other views.

I finally got around to making a pair of Closet Case Ginger Jeans. And I want to fight myself for not doing this sooner. I can get caught up in sticker shock when it comes to independent patterns. I always tell myself, "Nope... there's a Big 4 pattern twin out there." If there is a Big 4 jeans twin out there, I damn sure haven't ran across and I own A LOT of patterns and I've sewn a lot of jeans.

The last time I made skinnies, I had butt issues and twisting legs. None of that this time.

My fabric is this Dark Midnight Stretch Cotton Blended Denim from Mood Fabrics.com. I cut the size 14 and made a 1" full butt adjustment.

I also added half an inch to crotch length on each pattern piece.

And 1" of length.

Before I attached my waistband, I had to take in the waist significantly. If you notice, I have very little space in between the side seam and the coin pocket. The size is somewhere between the size 10 and 12 at the waist. For my next pair, I'll position the coin pocket better.

And I raised my back pockets up an inch higher than suggested. I always sew my pockets on last, after the jeans are completely done and I can put them on and place the pockets accordingly.

I've worn these jeans about 4 times since I finished them. I really need to make another pair soon before I wear these out!

And my Vogue 1517 gold jacket was the perfect topper!

So I made the new Vogue 1524 - Rebecca Vallance jumpsuit. So let's talk about.

You guys know that I'm no stranger to jumpsuits. I love them and I live in them. So it was a no-brainer that I would make this one. My fabric for the bodice is a black ponte de roma from Mood Fabrics.com. The pants are made in a black Rag & Bone stretch crepe. Don't be deceived by the photos on the Vogue Pattern's site or the envelope... this jumpsuit is made out of two different fabrics. The bodice is knit and stretchy, while the pants are made in a woven and tailored. Let's talk about the bodice:

First thing first... as I finished cutting out the pattern pieces, I notice the #6 pattern piece was missing (I bought the size 14-22, so it may just be in that printing batch). I obviously thought I'd cut it out and accidentally thrown it away. I searched through my trash can. I crawled around on the floor looking under furniture. Nothing. Joann's was still open so I ran to the store for another pattern. They were sold out. I just wanted confirmation that I didn't lose the piece. This almost made me scrap the entire project. 

But instead, I bossed up and just drafted the missing piece and kept it moving.

I added an inch the length to the bodice. The bodice is self-lined -- sewn twice and stitched together. Since my ponte de roma is pretty beefy, two layers worked out perfectly since this jumpsuit is clearly not bra-friendly. 

The bodice has cup sizing. I used the size 14 with D cup. This is a great detail because you don't have to worry about any side boobage slipping out with the way it's cut on the sides.

I wanted a nice gunmetal zipper, so I purchased mine from Pacific Trimming. My 1" parachute buckle is from a dealer on Etsy (I lucked up because she's no longer selling). I waited until the jumpsuit was fully-made before I finished the back bands. My buckle is metal and somewhat heavy. So I had to pull it tighter than the suggested length.

I cut the pants in the size 14 as well.

The pants are really nice. They're high-waist and tailored. They could actually be made as a stand along piece. I didn't have to add any length to the rise, but I did add a significant amount to the hem -- 6 inches!

The pants have pleats in the front and and side slant pockets.

The side front of the pants pocket looks like this. It has a facing sewn to it.

It's sewn onto the pocket like this.

The finished front inside is nice. The pockets are sewn into the center front seam and the pants also have facings at the waist. This makes for a really good fit that you don't see in a lot of jumpsuits. It's like a tummy panel that holds everything in.

For the back pockets, I always interface my welt area, especially in a woven fabric with stretch. It makes it a lot easier to manipulate.

Outside... And the pants have an invisible zipper at the center back.

One thing that I will go back and do is add a hook and eye above the pant zipper. It didn't suggest one, but I feel it will secure my zipper.

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out and I really want to use this bodice again, probably in a dress.

I wore this out last night and topped it off with my new Vogue 1517 jacket that I'm going to review in a separate post.
