It's comfy pajama season! Mikaela requested for the Thanksgiving holiday that I make her some pajamas. We were in Joann and she found this pattern, McCall's 7518 in the catalog. So, I promised her that I'd have them made by the time she got home yesterday.

For the fabric, she wanted plaid. She first selected a flannel shirting in a similar colorway. The fabric was only 41" wide and it was really lightweight with no 'give'. I explained why it wouldn't work. I told her to think about the same fabric that baby blanket sleepers  are made in. I found this Blizzard Fleece Red Green and Navy Fabric and most importantly, it's 58".

I made the adult small and it was the perfect size right out of the envelope. It's always a win when I don't have to make any alterations.

Especially since I took the time to match the plaid at all of the seams.

This is really a quick sew. It took longer to cut it out than it did to actually sew it all together.

I typically like for the dominant print (in this instance it's the red) to go down the center. But, primarily the center back -- it nips in at the waist. So I put the dominant color down the princess lines.

I omitted all of the extra topstitching that was suggested down the center of the hood and around the neckline.

It also has a center front lapped zipper.

For the cuffs, I used a navy blue ponte from my stash that was leftover from my Vogue 1522 pants.

This was an absolute success and she's loving it. I'll make another one in more of a red plaid for Christmas, because she's going to wear this one to death!

Don't you love when you find a hidden gem in a pattern? I do!  And this is what Vogue 9123 is, a hidden gem.  I completely overlooked this pattern since it was released.  And lo and behold, the perfect lightweight coat pattern!

We tend to have a lot of mild winter temps, and this coat is perfect for that type of breezy winter weather.  My perfect fabric is this Rose/Gray/Off-White Flannelled Wool Coating.  It's very lightweight and feels almost like a wool suiting.

I cut the size 14 straight from the envelope.  I didn't have to make any adjustments.  I am so winning! And based on the fact that I wanted to use a plaid fabric, this pattern has limited seaming... a couple of darts.  Nothing to freak out over.  So as far as uneven plaids go, this one was pretty simple to match a the seams.  And just remember this: Always cut plaids out on a single layer.  And match the print at the seam line and NOT the cutting line.  And also, I like symmetry so I made sure that the prominent pattern detail was centered, front, back and even the sleeves.

My lining fabric is this glorious silver silk charmeuse.

Such a dream to work with and it feels so luxurious to wear.  I finished my facing with an off-white satin bias trim.  And my lining is free-hanging.

The coat is lightly tailored.  No fancy interfacings this time.  But I did add a back stay, custom 1/2" shoulder pads, sleeve heads.

As someone who is not the greatest fan of prints or pink, I'm so glad that this pink plaid spoke to me.  It's great statement coat.  I'm sure I'll have fun wearing this!
