Simplicity 1756 - Tailored Camel Hair Coat - Erica B - DIY Style!
Coats are something that I've grown to love making.  I'm currently plotting and planning the coats I'm going to make for this season.

For my wardrobe, I like to balance classic styles with trendy styles because there's room for both.

Take for example, my camel hair tailored coat, made from Simplicity 1756.  When I made this coat almost a year ago, I had envisioned a beautifully tailored, classic coat that I would proudly wear for decades.  Something along the lines of Loro Piana or Max Mara coats.  This coat will NEVER end up in the donation pile.

But I also love this unstructured white blanket coat made from (OOP, but still available on the site) Vogue 8696. This is probably the trendiest outerwear of this season and I made mine a couple of years ago.  I don't want any snow and ice like we had this past winter.  But I love that the mercury dips low enough that I can enjoy these coats that hang in my closet!

  2. Nicely done Erica! I really like the crisp camel coat. Such a staple that will never go out of style.

I was getting ready to make a coat but we are staying in the single digits and I don't know if it's worth it. My down parka has been my go to.

  4. I remembered the winter white coat when you posted it last year. I took a look at the post and this one in the sunlight really shows the white. It looks much more striking. :-)

  6. I love - absolutely love your white wool cape! What other fabrics would this work wit for spring & fall? I want to make this for winter but I can see this in my future for our Utah Spring & falls. Great job!

  8. I just came across your blog, and without even going further than THIS page, I can already tell I'm going to LOVE your style! Those are both AMAZING, absolutely GORGEOUS coats! I have fiddled around with sewing here and there, mostly out of necessity of making adjustments to off the rack clothes (bc hardly anything ever fits me right, and I guess I'm picky) and also Halloween costumes-but I really want to try to get better and actually make my own clothes - at least a few things.... i looked up blanket coats and saw this and just thought that white one was SO beautiful! I know it's 2 years later but I bet you still wear it-I sure would! Very creative putting he lambskin on the bottom arms.... have a wonderful day, and thanks for the inspiration! (Btw-sadly I think that vogue pattern is not available at all anymore but I think I can find one similar!)
