Fall is Coming and I'm Planning My Sewing List!

12:30 PM

So I spent my Sunday morning perusing the huge September issues.  I love fall!  This is MY season.  I'm a Virgo... my birthday is approaching... I love layering... wool, tweeds and boots!  I love seeing the foliage and feeling the crisp breeze.  I love all things fall!  I get overwhelmingly excited while planning my fall wardrobe.  I want to make everything!  My list is always a pages!  So here are some things that I've currently added.
I imediately spotted a major trend: The Bow Blouse.  They were coming at me from every direction.  I've toyed with the idea of making one for a couple of years.

But being that I'm currently loving all things 1970's, I'm defintely making one this year.
And for added inspiration, notice the pants in this ad?
Vogue 1464 will be going on my list.

A fall maxi dress.  It's always so hot here, that I can't stand being swathed in yards of fabric in the summertime.  I like my maxis when it's a cooler.  And this beautiful interpretation from Chloe in a fall floral print is boho chic perfection!
McCall's 7242 is a great version.

A fringed skirt, which can be made by modifying a basic pencil skirt.

  2. I just watched 'The September Issue', so I am even a little more curious to check out what the fashion magazines will bring us this month. It's really a fun thing to see if you can spot any trends and how you can make them work (or not - equally important!) for yourself. Interesting choices you have here! I am actually surprised to see how much classier the 'sailor pants' look when the buttons are not in a contrast color and when a sleeker fabric is used. And like you, I may succumb to the bow blouse this time around! I am looking forward to see your finished garments and how you style them.

    1. A Sailor Pant has the potential to go kitsch really quickly. But the styling in that ad was everything! Just so chic! Definitely the look I'm going for! Thanks Sabine!

  3. I love the new blog layout! I'm also a Virgo; my birthday is the 8th so I'm technically a summer baby. however, in New England grade school always started right after Labor Day, so I've always associated my birthday with the beginning of fall as well. I'm feeling that maxi dress!!

  5. I still remember the Hotpatterns Sailor pants you made a while back. How does the Vogue pattern compare?

I never thought to wear maxis in fall...it is too hot to wear them in summer here too, so that is a great idea.

  6. Fall is my favorite season cause I too love all the layering and warm-toned fabrics especially with my red hair. I've made my list and have started sewing despite the 90 degree plus temps we have here in Houston, TX. I always value the patterns you pick as you are one stylish lady! Karen

  9. Hi, I have already eyed the Mccalls maxi dress myself. Can you imagine how cute it would look with suede knee high boots in a scrumptious color like burgundy and fabric to match! You are tall you lucky gal I instead am a shorty but I have figured out I can pull a maxi in fall colors if I use a light weight fabric like chiffon. I cant wait to see your version if you decide making it!
