The Dress Over Pants Trend for Spring 2016!

4:30 PM

I've done tunics over pants, but I've never done the dress over pants look.  I guess because I never had a dress in my closet that I felt would work... for me.  I never wanted to look like -- I was wearing a dress over pants.  And some of the versions I've seen look excessive.

I had been looking at all of the trends that hit runway for Spring/Summer 2016, I noticed that it was a prominent look in the collections of BCBG Max Azria, Hellesy, Narciso Rodriguez and Rosetta Getty to name few.
Our weather has been really confusing.  And today, was one of those brisk, windy but mild days.  This was the perfect way to layer for cool-weather day dressing.
Styling tip:  For my look, I paid close attention to the proportions.  That's what I feel that can make this look go terribly wrong.  My Army Green Long Sleeve Split Maxi Dress c/o Shein.com, is light enough to layer and light enough to thrown on over shorts and a tank to wear as duster during warm days.  I kept the proportions on the bottom narrow with my faux leather McCall's 6404 leggings.  They're my ultimate wardrobe staple. And also my Vogue 1465 sleeveless turtleneck.  And I balanced the look with a suede pump.
And my jewelry from this month's Rocksbox is pretty minimal.  My earrings are Kendra Scott "Elle" in Black.  I love them so much that I purchased them as fast as I pulled them from the box!  So they're staying with me.  My necklace is Gorjana "Bali" Tube Necklace.  They make the most perfect layering pieces.  Rocksbox is a great way to always have fresh, new and interesting jewelry pieces monthly.  This is my 4th month and I feel like I'm going to keep doing this for a while.  If you're interested in giving them a try, feel free to use my code: ericabunkerxoxo for a free month!

  1. Erica, I like the dress over leggings or slim pants look. About five years ago this look was introduced but was a short lived trend. Glad to see it back! You look fabulous.

  4. I'm curious Erica. What happens or is there considerations to be had for the prominent buttock. I like the look of dusters and such, but the belted or full dress over all the rump scares me. Thanks for your response.

    1. You have to go with what makes you feel comfortable. I prefer a cinched waist. Thanks Andrea!
