Review : New Look 6130 | White & Coral.

7:00 AM

I can't even tell you how ready I am for Fall!  My mind has been on nothing but wanting to sew "transitional" garments that I can wear now and later.

It's no secret that I'm in love with all things peplum.  So I made another peplum top and I can promise you that this one will not be the last one.  I still plan to make a couple with sleeves for the Fall/Winter.  This one is New Look 6130.
Love the neckline and my polish is Essie "Good as Gold"!

The only alteration I made was adding an inch to the waist.  I used this fabulous stretch white cotton sateen from Mood Fabrics.com.  And I added an exposed zipper to the back for that extra bit of pizzazz.
I bought the zipper from Joanns.  It's this one and it's 24" long.
And I made another pair pants from Vogue 1143.  This time in a gorgeous bright coral lightweight stretch wool crepe from Mood Fabrics.com.  Believe me when I tell you that this fabric is beautiful.  The drape is amazing and it's light enough to wear now and I can add tights for cooler temps.

  1. These exposed zippers are so funny to me. I see them everywhere and I just can't do it. I think it's because I had such a hard time learning to install zippers. Every time I see one of these visible ones I see my mama ripping mine out and saying, "Zippers aren't supposed to be seen." I love those pants. Coral is one of my fave colors and you fit pants the way my mama used to. Making well fittedpants is hard. My mama had a knack or it and you do too.

    1. Roslyn, I think I will always struggle with fitting pants. For every new pattern there's a new fit issue! Thanks!

I love the whole outfit but especially the top. I love the detail at the bottom and the exposed zipper. My little sister got her first sewing machine and we have been making things you can check out my blog if you want to see. We are going to be trying to make clothes soon. Your blog is a great inspiration.

    1. Amanda S, it's still pretty warm here. But typically in late September or early October, it's subject to be 90 today and 45 the next! I want to be ready! Thanks!

  13. Wow, awesome top! I've always loved peplums. This pattern went unnoticed by me and all the line drawings have the self belt obscuring the cool pleated construction at the waist. Glad you brought it to my attention.

  22. Hi Erica,
I too love peplums. When I sewed moons ago, I would always make a garment with a peplum.

I am about to resume sewing at the end of this month and I am going to try your bodice. I love it. The only thing is I might not find an exposed zipper where I am so im gonna use an invisible zipper.

    thanks for sharing.

  36. Hi Erica,
This outfit looks great on you. I know that you like to add exposed zippers to your garments and I was wondering...do the metal teeth feel uncomfortable while you're wearing it? I'd like to try an exposed zipper but every time I pick them up, I wonder about that. Thanks!

  37. Thanks Adrienne. No it doesn't. It feels no different than a regular zipper.

  38. as always, your entire ensemble is perfection, right down to the exposed zipper. how did you get it to lie so perfectly?!

    1. It's not an alteration you need to make. You cut the wrong size. You need a smaller size through the shoulders and back. Thanks Han S!
