What I'm Wearing | Mixing Colors!

11:00 PM

As I'm sure, most of you have figured out that I LOVE color!  I am fearless when it comes to brights.  But it wasn't always that way.  I have a natural inclination towards black.  I use to say that black was my favorite color and it was obvious from my closet.  I can't even tell you how many black garments and shoes that I use to own.  And it would not be unusual to see me dressed in head to toe black.  So when I bit the proverbial bullet and cliff dived into a technicolor wardrobe, it was like being reborn.  I felt "free"!  I feel so a live!  I get so many compliments on what I'm wearing.
Out of all of the brights, I think yellow is one of my favorites.  I know a lot of people find yellow to be a difficult color to pull off.  Not me!  I love it and if I must say so myself, it looks great on me and compliments my skintone very well.
I have no problem with pulling in ALL directions from the color wheel!  I love mixing warm and cool colors. And this is why I love turquoise and yellow!  I added a red belt and even though you can't see them, I have on red sandals.  And I used a white bag as a neutralizer.

  1. Even though my style is pretty different than yours (I, uh, wear a lot of black and grey and other drabs, in a boho/layered/frumpy kind of way), I think you always look amazing. Bright colors really suit you and I look forward to seeing your outfits and inspiration. LOVE the yellow on you! It's like a bolt of pure sunshine.

  4. I, too, have been trying to embrace color. I bought a pair of yellow pants and have been struggling with what to pair them with. I was tending towards black but you've given me new inspiration. ;-) Lovely as always!

  7. Great outfit. If you don't mind me asking , did you make the skirt and if so, what pattern did you use? I really like how it flows.

    1. Denise, I did. It's a maxi skirt... 2 rectangles sewn together with elastic at the waist. No pattern needed. However, if you need assistance making one, check out Mimi G.'s blog. She has a great tutorial and video. Thanks!

  8. Oh my gosh, I always say that black is my favorite color. :-) You've definitely inspired me to incorporate more color. I like it but tend to be lazy and just pull out something easy to pair up (black/brown/gray). Love this outfit on you!

  11. You look stunning, as per usual. You do have a way with combining colours that I would never think to put together, and end up looking magnificent. I usually put a colour with a lighter or darker shade of the same colour. You're inspiring me to step out of my "shade" box a lil.

  12. HI Erica, I've followed you for a little bit now and have to tell you I love what you can do with a sewing machine!! You are extremely talented.
I too am just now experimenting with color. My closet is in transition :) black and greys in one section and color and bold prints in another. And you are absolutely right - color makes me feel free too!!
    Have a great weekend. Gretchen

  13. You look fabulous in those colors! Yellow is my favorite also, but I'm one of those that can't really wear it well, so I bought myself a beautiful pair of yellow shoes for spring and summer.

The colors certainly do suit you.

May I ask what type of fabric you used for the skirt? It flows beautifully.

  19. Nice! I especially like the yellow maxi skirt. I just made a tankini in the same bright colors+ white in the reverse-yellow top with a blue and a white stripe, blue bottom.
