This is McCall's 7836. It's tunic length, with an asymmetrical one shoulder cut out and a mock turtleneck. It's a great alternative to a plain sweater or basic sweatshirt.

My fabric is an ivory ponte knit with stretch. I emphasized that because a lot of them are stable knits with no spandex/lycra. I like for mine to have stretch for the sake of "recovery". 

I wouldn't want this to bag out at the elbows and the bottom, since I'll obviously be sitting will wearing this. I picked this one up at Joann's. 

I cut the 14 and graded to a 16 at the bottom. I decided to add a band because I knew I'd want to wear this untucked and I just didn't like the way it hung.

I took in the shoulder cutout by an inch. When I put it on, I found that it was gaping somewhat right at the collarbone. Enough to make me feel like if someone was standing over me as I'm sitting, they could look down my top. And I want to be comfortable in my clothes. I don't want to feel fidgety or have to always be adjusting.

This was such a quick project that I wish I'd bought more of this fabric in multiple colors. I hope I get around to make at least one in black and possible gray. These are great throw-on-and-go tops that will work perfectly with trousers, jeans and even leggings!

Very rarely do I sew something with the intent of wearing it the same day. When I woke yesterday morning, my day was pretty routine... I got up, went to gym, came back home and sat outside with my morning coffee and scrolled Instagram, while the news played in the background. I saw one of the local accounts that I follow was a sponsor for the Art on the Rocks at the Birmingham Museum of Art and they were giving away tickets for last night. As soon as I entered the drawing, I immediately thought, "If I win, what will I wear?"  And lo and behold, about 30 minutes later, I actually won! Thanks Bromberg's! 

I typically attend at least one of the Fridays each year, but I definitely hadn't planned on attending last night. So, I was a little caught off guard. Sure, I have plenty of options in my closet that I can pull from, but me being the me that I am -- I wanted something new! 

I'd already been contemplating this outfit, because I had the exact amount of fabric it would take - 6 yards! And it seemed simple enough that I could cut it out and sew it up in a few hours. My fabric is from my bundle that I bought from Fine Fabrics that I showed in my latest haul video. I'd bought with the intention of making something else, but I decided it worked better for this look.

Normally, I cut a size 14... it's my go to Big 4 size. And I sometimes go with a 16 for bottoms. So, I thought it was best if I bought the pattern envelope with the size large because I can always take in. The top is pretty big. I could have actually made the medium. 

And I probably could've made the medium in the skirt too. The one good thing is everything was the right length. Aesthetically, I love a floor grazing maxi. 

But for the sake of my own clumsiness, ankle grazing works best for me. I've been known to step on the hem and fall walking up steps. I am not the most graceful gal!

I found the most perfect grosgrain ribbon that matched my fabric. So I narrowed the waistband on the skirt and used the ribbon as the ties. It was a perfect transition!

And the skirt has pockets. 

And who doesn't love pockets?!

I love that these two pieces together look like a maxi dress, but they can easily be separated. I love how quick this went together and how comfortable and cool it was for an evening out!

Here is another jumpsuit I'm adding to my collection. Because if you didn't already know, one-piece dress is the TRUTH! Dresses are fabulous, but sometimes you want to be more dressed up, but wearing pants. And this little number fits the bill.

This is McCall's 7632, a fabulous single-shoulder design. My fabric is Theory Baja Blue Stretch Crepe, which is unfortunately sold out. I bought this fabric last year and made this great dress and it immediately sold out then. If Mood restocks this one, you should grab it. But until then, here are some selections that I think would be great (Ralph Lauren Evening Blue Stretch Crepe, Deep Wisteria Stretch Polyester Crepe and Italian Stretch Polyester Crepe Fabric). Even though I rarely take my own advice, I highly recommend swatching first.

I went with view C. I cut the bodice in a size 12, and graded to the 14 at the waist. I also added an inch to the bodice length.

The bodice is self-lined, which is a necessity because of the way it ties at the shoulder.

If I had done one of the other views, I could've gone with lining fabric and careful understitching.

I cut the pants in a size 14 and graded to a 16 at the hip. I added an inch to the crotch length. I liked the length of the pants from the envelope. Whenever I wear culottes, I like for them to be the length of a midi skirt/dress.

The jumpsuit has an invisible zipper on the right side. And I finished the pants with a blind hem stitch. This fabric cuts, sews and presses so well, not to mention how comfortable it. I love when a woven feels like a jersey, but with a more polished look. So this one is another winner!

I very rarely forget to review something I've sewn. I don't remember the last time this happened. I do remember that I sewed this top back in August. I was on a sewing roll at that time. My mojo was on fire!🔥 And at the same time, we were preparing Mikaela for her sophomore year of college. I got caught up in the chaos of shopping for her new residence and this piece kind of fell by the wayside and it ended up buried in my closet. 

I rediscovered it back in December. I'd planned to wear it during the holiday season but I never got around to it. But with Valentine's Day around the corner (don't forget about my giveway) I was searching to see what I have that was red. Bingo!

My pattern is a classic! It's Vogue 2064 - Donna Karan from 1997. That's right, it's 20 years old! Styles are so cyclical that this pattern is relevant today. Shoulder-baring one-arm silhouettes are currently a fashion phenomenon. Throw in that cold-shoulder cutout detail and you have a fashion killa!

I read the reviews on this top recently and I'm glad I just opened up the envelope and started sewing as if this was a brand new pattern that had never been sewn before. A lot of people had a lot of things to say. And I'm so glad I didn't have that "noise" in my head during the cutting and construction. Because I found this top to be extremely easy and quick to cut out and sew, considering it is a designer Donna Karan Vogue Pattern.

I cut out the size 12 and sewed this straight from the envelope with not modifications. My fabric is Scarlet Stretch Poly-Rayon Ponte de Roma from Mood Fabrics.com. I like the weight of this fabric for this type of top. It's no overly stretchy and slinky like an ITY would would be. It has a great combination of stability and give that keeps this top in place while allowing it to be comfortable to wear.

What keeps this top in place around the neckline and back is elastic in a casing. I feel secure and I know that it's going to stay in place without falling down or gaping anywhere. And the insides are serged just like I would finish any knit.

There is elastic even at the cold-shoulder cutout area.

For the back, I used D-rings and cotton twill for my closure.

I love this top! I don't know what took me so long to make this and wear it. And now that I have, I will probably make another in black or a white one for spring!

The growing trend of off-the-shoulder tops and dresses keeps growing and getting hotter as the mercury rises.  So this time, I thought I'd change the game up a little bit on mine and give you some single shoulder styling!

There are times in sewing life that all of the elements align.  You see a style that you love and have an "I can make that" moment.  You know already how you're going to go about creating your inspiration garment.  And as soon as you walk into the fabric store, lo and behold -- the perfect fabric lands in your shopping cart!  That my sewing friends is called "sewing kismet"!
