What I Wore: The Iron Bowl 2012 | Houndstooth!

Crimson Tide 4th Quarter!

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving weekend was amazing!  My family and I had a great time.  It was topped off with an amazing Iron Bowl win for The University of Alabama!  Roll Tide, Roll!!!  And as a true S.E.C. girl, I repped my school colors by rocking my McCall's 5766 houndstooth coat to the game.
If you didn't already know, houndstooth joined the crimson and white as the unofficial third color of the Alabama Crimson Tide.  So this is what I grab for on crisp autumn gameday!
In addition to my coat, I wore Nine West Vintage America Skinny Jeans (perfect for wearing with boots); BCBG black suede boots (similar to these); a black cashmere turtleneck; a black pashmina scarf; and my "pop of crimson" red bag.

Review: Vogue 1329 | Black & White Colorblocking

This is Vogue 1329 by Kay Unger New York.  On the pattern envelope, the original dress was black with a white contrast.  I decided to reverse it like this dress below:

This isn't even the Kay Unger New York dress, it's by Calvin Klein.  It makes you wonder which came first?
I've always liked the Kay Unger New York options at Vogue Patterns and this one is no different.
This pattern went together so well and so quickly.  It was just what I needed to get my sewing mojo revved up.  I used ponteroma knit in off-white and black from my stash.  I'm not sure if I bought it from Joann's or Hancock... I've had it for just that long.
The only alterations needed was adding 3 inches to the length.  And it's fully lined... I used nylon lingerie fabric.  And the yokes are just self-lined.  Oh... and I almost forgot that I tapered in the bottom of the dress. I prefer my pencil skirts and sheath dresses "pegged" at the hem.  It's just a personal preference for me.  It keeps my dresses and skirts from looking rectangular.  I always reduce the bottom to 4 inches less than the widest point of the hip.
I really love the pleated detail at the waist.  It saved a this dress from easily going into the boxy territory.  Colorblocking is still a hot trend and the colorblocking possibilities with this dress are endless.  So it's a really good chance I'll make this again.
And since it was a gorgeous day that was around a high of 67, I added patent leather peep-toe ankle booties and my black Jason Wu for Target trench.

What I'm Wearing | Caped Crusader!

I love capes!  And even though we women have some superpowers, you don't have to be a superhero to rock one.  They're so easy to wear and you can find one in a variety of lengths that would suit your style and personality.  And even though they've been "on trend" for the past two years, capes are classic, elegant and timeless.
Camel is now my favorite neutral to reach for during autumn.  It used to be grey, but I decided to try a warmer color.  Don't get me wrong, I still like grey too!
Black is always a great companion to camel.  So I added a black cashmere turtleneck and my black wool pants.
And my classic Elliott Lucca bag and a pair of fun pumps!
Are you swingin' into the cold weather months in capes too?

What I'm Wearing | Weekend Wear: Camel + White!

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!  I sure did.  I got some much needed rest and also spent a lot of time with the family.  Sometimes all it takes to re-calibrate is to just load everyone up and run monotonous weekend errands.  It's all about just being together, talking and laughing.  The small stuff.
I am such a fan of camel and white.  I'm not someone who steers clear of white after the summer months have ended.  So, I feel this color combo is just perfect for fall weather.

Inspired by...
I'm wearing my Vogue 8679 blazer, which is a fabulous replica of Alexander McQueen's Pre-Fall 2009 riding jacket that originally retailed for around $3,000!  Have I mentioned lately that I'm so glad that I can sew?!  It's one of my fall favorites.
I'm wearing it with a camel cashmere sleeveless sweater, my favorite NYDJ white jeans, Stuart Weitzman pony hair leopard print loafers, my Anne Klein leopard print belt and my Urban Outfitters bag.

Happy Veteran's Day!

What I'm Wearing | Election Day!

Happy Election Day!
I've been so busy the last couple of weeks that I didn't know if I was coming or going.  But I do know I had no motivation to blog or even sew.  That thing called life... I tell ya... sigh...  Hopefully, the chilly weather will inspire me to watch football, eat soup and get some sewing done this weekend.
So today, I decided to create an "Election Day" inspired outfit to wear while I performed my civic duty.
I picked up my "Rock The Vote 2012" t-shirt from Old Navy.  I'm glad that I waited to buy on yesterday, because it was on sale!  And I wore it with this black Love 21 blazer from Forever 21.  And my faux leather leggings.
