Dear McCall's, I did it FIRST!

12:00 AM

And better!  A zip-front jumpsuit, that is.
But for those of you who worry about, "Oh My God, how can I go to the bathroom wearing a jumpsuit?!?!?"  McCall's has answered your thoughts with their version of the zip-front jumpsuit.
New pattern, McCall's 7292.  This is one of the newest Winter/Holiday Collection.  Mine has a fully-lined bodice and pockets.  I don't think I missed out by waiting on the commercial version.  But if your bladder can't hold out for a couple of hours away from home and you'd like to wear a jumpsuit with no hassle, McCall's has answered the call!
If you're into design and want an instant pattern block?  Thank McCall's... because this is it.  You can take McCall's 7279 and design it into any tailored dress you can think of.  If you're into Frankenpatterning and see patterns differently than the average bear, this one is a must have.  I may buy this one in all of the size ranges.

McCall's 7294 is a great building pattern.  I see all of these pieces in RTW.  They're already so many versions of views A & B.  View C, yes!  And view D, which I can see in a leather/faux leather ponte knit combo, is a winner for me.
If you've been looking for a boned corset with underwire, lacing and cup sizing (Oh... just me?), well here it is.  Kind of funny it's under costumes.  Oh yeah, this is McCall's 7306.

This is all that caught my eye...

    3. I have no fear of sewing a corset, I just havent gotten around to it -- yet. I've made several dresses with inner corsets, so I'm no stranger to the method.

  3. I though the same thing with M7279 it would make an excellent shell pattern, once you alter it the combinations are endless

  4. Now you got me wondering how a front zip makes it easier to pee, unless I bring a Shepee or something with me; even then, I'd think the zipper would have to be lower for that to work. I seem to have to go the restroom every 5 minutes, so, that is definitely one reason I've been iffy about a jumpsuit.

    1. I wore this particular jumpsuit to an all day conference. And when I unzipped and removed my arms from the armholes, nothing bad happened! If people really have to over think jumpsuits on this level, which I find really funny, just don't wear a jumpsuit. It's not that deep.

  5. Erica, great minds think alike! Guess what I picked up at Hancock Fabrics? Simplicity pattern 1183 for $1, it a great corset pattern and it wasn't listed under no costume category. I showed my husband this pattern and he can't hardly wait for me to make it. He has never been interested in me sewing anything until I showed him this number! 👠👠 Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

  6. I've owned a few (RTW) and sewn a couple jumpsuits and am never quite certain over the whole bathroom issue. I don't know, maybe I have an iron bladder? HA!

I didn't find much to like about this release, but that's okay...I actually do love the apron and if I choose to make some Christmas gifts this year, it may be a great go-to.

    1. I'm feeling the apron too. I was watching Survivor's Remorse on Saturday night. One of the ladies was wearing this beautiful apron. I tracked it down to Anthropologie. Now I must make one and that pattern is perfect! Thanks!

  7. That corset illustration is so insane! But looks like a nice "basic" pattern (if that's your thing). The dress block also looks useful although easy enough to make your own.

  10. I loved your comments: "You can take McCall's 7279 and design it into any tailored dress you can think of. If you're into Frankenpatterning and see patterns differently than the average bear, this one is a must have. I may buy this one in all of the size ranges." Fun terminology. First I would fit the pattern to you, then use it as a sloper for designing. The pattern includes a ton of fit help in the guide and with alteration placement lines on the tissue. Also sizes 8-22 are all in the pattern with 4 sizes grouped on a sheet. Happy Fitting! Pati Palmer
